The Philosophy Behind Every Sip.
SPLASH OF THE WEEK
The Philosophy Behind Every Sip.
Dear Water Wellness Friends,
One of the most common questions I get is: What water should I drink? Closely followed by:
Which filter do I need?
What is water wellness?
How do I bring more Blue Mind into my life?
Can I join you on a water retreat?
When answering question #1, I always remember Viktor Schauberger, a forester and water researcher who spent his days observing how water flows and behaves in nature.
He believed we should drink water as nature intended – from pristine, natural springs. According to him, groundwater that hasn’t surfaced on its own is still immature, not yet ready for us to consume. And just as springs dry out when exposed to too much sunlight, our forests – the true home of our water – need protection to ensure the purity of our water sources.
There are many ways to engage with water, but let’s start with the most obvious: taste. What makes some water crisp and light? It comes down to minerals. We hosted a water tasting session last week in Germany. Here is what we’ve learned.
The Four Types of Water There are four categories:
Natural Mineral Water – From protected underground sources, naturally rich in minerals, and requires official recognition. Over 800 mineral waters are registered in Germany.
Spring Water – Similar to mineral water but without strict mineral content regulations or official recognition.
Table Water – A blend of different water sources, sometimes enhanced with minerals, commonly used in restaurants. Usually (additionally filtered) tap water.
Healing Water (Heilwasser) – Legally classified as a medicinal product with proven health benefits.
When choosing bottled water, I look at three things: source, TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) or Dry Residue, and packaging.
What is TDS and Why Does It Matter?
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) measures the concentration of dissolved minerals in water—like calcium, magnesium, and bicarbonates. It affects both taste and mouthfeel:
0-50 mg/L – Ultra-light, nearly no minerals.
50-150 mg/L – Crisp and refreshing.
150-300 mg/L – Balanced and smooth.
300-500 mg/L – Rich in minerals, stronger taste.
500+ mg/L – Highly mineralized, can taste salty.
For example, the famous Borjomi water from Georgia has a TDS of 5,000–7,500 mg/L, making it intensely mineral-rich, while most spring waters fall in the 100-300 mg/L range.
TDS vs. Dry Residue
TDS is often confused with Dry Residue at 180°C, but they measure different things:
TDS includes all dissolved solids, measured via electrical conductivity.
Dry Residue is what remains when water is evaporated at 180°C, excluding volatile compounds like CO₂.
Both provide insight into mineral content, but Dry Residue focuses more on inorganic minerals.
Water Wellness: A Claudiclouds Approach
Water is more than hydration—it’s an experience, a reflection of our deep connection to nature. We are 99% water by molecular count, and every sip we take is a reminder of our shared materiality with the natural world. Wellness flows through every cell in our body, influenced by our daily practices, thoughts, and habits. My Water Wellness philosophy blends education, mindfulness, and nature connection—with a splash of play:
Hydration Education – Simplify to amplify. Understanding what’s in your water, where it comes from, how to filter and enhance it, and debunking hydration myths. The fundamental principles of nature are always simple.
Blue Mind Life & Water Retreats – Water has a calming effect on the mind. Neuroscience shows that being near, in, or on water enhances creativity, relaxation, and connection. Immersive experiences focused on water’s healing properties—both within and around you—with plenty of time for splash & play.
Nature Connectedness & Water Consciousness – Recognizing how our daily choices impact the water cycle and embracing more sustainable habits.
The way we engage with water shapes our health, our mindset, and our connection to the world around us. Every sip is an invitation to slow down, appreciate, and realign with nature’s rhythms. Water is not just something we drink—it’s something we are.

The Age of Wellness
My 4-Step Water Wellness Method:
1️⃣ Source – Know where your water comes from and what’s in it. Hydration starts with awareness—choose high-quality water and eat water-rich foods.
2️⃣ Filter – Purify with purpose. Whether it’s a jug, faucet, or whole-home system, the key is knowing what you want to filter out.
3️⃣ Elevate – Water is more than H₂O. Enhance it with minerals, vortexing, and structured water techniques for optimal energy and absorption.
4️⃣ Appreciate – Water isn’t just for drinking—it’s for living. Swim, surf, bathe, dance in the rain. Embrace the Blue Mind effect and let water bring you joy.
Hydration is a lifestyle. Make water wellness is a mindset. Make it a daily ritual.
